Goal:
Implement VR-based technical training at the SIGMA room at FAMUR
Solution:
BellVR platform with a growing library of interactive and instructional scenarios based on real service footage
Outcome:
Safe, repeatable, and immersive training for technicians and global clients — on-site or remotely
The goal was to implement an innovative, immersive training environment as part of FAMUR’s SIGMA room — a space designed to support virtual learning, diagnostics, and collaboration using Industry 4.0 technologies. Our mission was to deliver a VR training platform that would allow technicians to safely and effectively train on complex industrial equipment without interrupting real operations.
We proposed deploying BellVR as the core VR training platform in the SIGMA room. We initially developed a set of key training scenarios simulating essential service procedures. Working closely with FAMUR’s engineering team, we expanded this library over time to include both hands-on, interactive technical training and demonstrative animations.
To complement the virtual training system, we also created a cinematic presentation video showcasing FAMUR’s technologies in a surreal, space-inspired visual style. Displayed on a massive screen inside SIGMA, the film serves as both an engaging introduction and a strong branding element.
FAMUR’s industrial machines are complex, large-scale, and costly to operate. Their availability for training purposes is extremely limited, and any downtime can cause significant logistical and financial strain. Moreover, the service procedures are highly specialized and require precision and full procedural awareness.
To create accurate VR simulations, FAMUR provided access to technical documentation, service manuals, and video footage of actual maintenance operations. Our team transformed this content into realistic 3D environments and logic-driven training flows using Unity — building a high-fidelity VR service simulation aligned with real-world workflows.
As part of the BellVR deployment, we developed detailed 3D replicas of FAMUR’s machines and environments, based on CAD files and video materials. Each procedure was translated into a dedicated training scenario — instructional, interactive, or test-based — enabling users to practice tasks in guided or autonomous mode.
We integrated voice narration and contextual cues to guide users step by step. For instructors, we built a trainer mode with tools for observation, commentary, and remote collaboration. The system was fully connected with SIGMA’s infrastructure, including Meta Quest VR headsets, 4K displays, and custom training stations.
By implementing BellVR, FAMUR introduced a modern, scalable VR training platform that aligns with the goals of Industry 4.0. The solution eliminates risks tied to physical machine use during training, accelerates onboarding, and significantly improves knowledge retention through immersive technical training.
The system also enables remote training for international clients — without travel, logistics, or machine handling. Today, the SIGMA room functions as a fully equipped competence center, combining industrial VR training, diagnostics, and technology showcases, with BellVR at its core.
