For FAMUR S.A., we developed a complete suite of interactive applications for the 2019 International Mining Fair in Katowice. The goal was to demonstrate the company’s technological advancement and long-term commitment to innovation – all in line with the principles of Industry 4.0. The project consisted of three main components: an AR app for predictive maintenance, a VR training simulation, and a 3D product catalogue on a large touchscreen display.
The AR application allowed users to scan a physical 3D-printed model of a mining machine using a tablet. Once recognized, the system overlaid operational data, diagnostic indicators and checklist steps for standard maintenance procedures directly onto the model. The application simulated what real-time condition monitoring might look like in future smart factory environments, offering a clear and intuitive interface for service technicians.
We also developed a VR training environment to guide users through real-life maintenance procedures for three selected machines. Based on detailed CAD documentation and recorded field workflows, our team created accurate 3D models and step-by-step animations. Users could enter immersive scenarios, interact with machines, and complete service operations safely in virtual space.
A separate control application for trainers allowed instructors to manage the session – highlighting elements, triggering animations, repositioning participants, or responding to their interactions. The training experience was group-oriented, with built-in tools for engagement, Q&A, and even post-training knowledge testing.
To complement the experience, we created a touchscreen-based 3D catalogue that enabled visitors to explore FAMUR’s entire range of mining machinery. Each product included detailed 3D models, technical specifications, animations, images and grouped product categories. The application was designed for multi-user engagement and optimized for trade show use, but it can also be used in showrooms, meetings or customer presentations.
